….by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 2 Corinthians 6:7 (KJV)

In physical combat such as boxing or in spiritual warfare, the need for protecting and shielding oneself cannot be overemphasized. Similarly, in the preceding Scripture, the apostle Paul makes a profound remark about how he was shielded by the armour of righteousness on his right and left hand in the times of persecution, satanic onslaughts and attacks from both humans and spirit beings.

In the same way, as we live in these perilous times and evil age, we need to be shielded with “the armour of righteousness”. To be sure, the armour of righteousness keeps us safe, secure and protected from Satan and his minions. It is no news that we are in a warfare, but it is actually an intense spiritual warfare against the forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:12).

Ephesians 6:12 (New Living Translation)
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

This same thought is re-echoed, and made more pungent by the apostle John in his first epistle. He remarks that “the whole world lies in wickedness but the believers in Christ are of God, and they have overcome the evil one” (1 John 5:19; 1 John 4:4).

1 John 5:19 (KJV)
And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

1 John 4:4 (KJV)
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

It is instructive to note that in the original Greek language and rendering of the apostle John’s remark, it reads as “the whole world lies in the wicked one”. This Scripture shows us how dark and evil this present world we live in really is. This is so because Satan is the one who runs the world as the god of this world. But he is a doing so as a usurper who wrestled authority from Adam after he gave in to his lies in the Garden of Eden (2 Corinthians 4:4).

2 Corinthians 4:4 (KJV)
….in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

But the good news is that as long “as we keep making righteous choices and living a life of holiness, we will be protected and shielded from Satan’s attacks”. This is because every plan Satan and his minions have to trap, ensnare and attack us will only succeed when we give in to the desires of the flesh, and operate in the flesh. Sadly, most times many believers in Christ in large sections of the church think that things will just pan out and work out fine in their Christian life even when they don’t make righteous choices to deny the flesh, and say no to Satan, sin and the world. But this isn’t true!

There’s actually “division of labour in the grace of God”. We can’t do God’s part, and God will not do our part in the war against Satan, sin, the flesh and the world. This is particularly true in our contemporary culture as it has become so pornographic and highly sexualized. There’s an explosion in the perversion industry (porn industry), and there’s an agenda from the pit of hell to make the minds and hearts of people impure in the culture .

With the explosion in the perversion industry and technology particularly with the use of hologram, perversion and immorality will be taken to heights never known in human history. The internet and social media have also become great tools used by Satan and his agents to promote nudity, lewdness, vulgarity and to propagate lies and erroneous ideologies, doctrines and teachings that promote ungodliness and unrighteousness.

But ‘we are enjoined by both the apostles Peter and Paul to say no to the flesh by making righteous choices in the war against sin, lust and every filthiness of the flesh and the spirit’. But this has to be done deliberately, diligently and consciously as the Holy Spirit helps us in the grace of God (1 Peter 2:11; 2 Corinthians 7:1-2).

1 Peter 2:11 (KJV)
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

2 Corinthians 7:1 (AMPLIFIED)
Therefore, since we have these [great and wonderful] promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, completing holiness [living a consecrated life—a life set apart for God’s purpose] in the fear of God.

And if you’re caught in the web of these perversions and pollution, today is the day of salvation and repentance. Procrastinating may be very costly! In the same vein, it is instructive to note that from the day that the Lord Jesus Christ died and resurrected from the dead, everyday ever since is the day of salvation and the appointed time of repentance (2 Corinthians 6:2).

2 Corinthians 6:2 (KJV)
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, And in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

Therefore, don’t put it to sometime in the future, and do not harden your heart against the Holy Spirit and His gentle nudges!

And as the second of the Lord Jesus Christ draws closer, you’ve got to make up your mind as a believer in Christ to wholly follow the Lord! You must do so by making righteous choices everyday in the midst of this crooked and perverse generation. Righteousness (holy living) is indeed a shield, armour that protects and inoculates us against Satan’s onslaughts and attacks.

Please choose wisely today!

Peace.
